6 Things I Learned in March

I didn’t keep very good records of the things I learned in March, but here are a few interesting ones for your enlightenment. As usual I’m linking up with Emily P. Freeman this month. (If you missed her Good Friday post, you should read it — she explains a beautiful truth in an eloquent way.)

  1. American women known as WASPs (Women Airforce Service Pilots) flew military planes during World War II. I learned this from the novel The All-Girl Filling Station’s Last Reunion, but you can also read about it here.

2. Even though Alberta’s economy is not doing very well right now, the province still has the highest population growth rate in Canada (1.8% last year).

4. Nutraloaf is a meal replacement sometimes fed to inmates of American prisons who misbehave. It sounds like it would be a good deterrent for me.

3. The origins of many nursery rhymes are disputed (even the ones I thought I knew).

4. An old friend directed me to this article where I learned that women today spend an average of 18 hours a week on housework, compared to 44 in the 1960s.

5. Finally, I learned a few things about Saint Patrick… but I’ll let you take this short quiz, instead of being more explicit.

What did you learn in March?

I had completely forgotten about the WASPs! I was really fascinated with the WWII, and them in general in high school! I did so much research on them, wrote papers about them, and even started writing a short story. I would have loved to have been one of those young ladies! What gumption! Great list! I found you through Modern Mrs. Darcy. I am working on my “What I Learned in March” now too!

Thanks for stopping by! That’s cool that you were into the WASPs in high school. I went through a fascination with the Spanish Civil War at one point, but haven’t read anything about it in years. Maybe I should rekindle that interest!
