Historical Highlights #065

Before the historical highlights, I want to announce that I finished my NaNoWriMo novel last night! It’s a mess of 50,000 words, but I made it to the end and that’s what this creative experiment is all about.

Now, we’ll begin with my favourite article of the week (sounds like something I could use in a novel!): “Mystery Solved: A Michigan Woman Says She Mailed Civil War Letters to the Post Office – Smithsonian curator Nancy Pope learns how and why these letters showed up in the mail 153 years later”

If you’re up for a long read, this article describes how a workshop makes perfect copies of imperiled art.

And this one looks at the significance of the Zapruder film that caught JFK’s assassination on tape. (You might also be interested in this 2013 movie.)

The Lost Stories project unearths untold stories from Canada’s past, such as this story of discrimination against Chinese immigrants.

Did you know that the history of the photocopier involves metal drums, alcohol, and gelatin?

This guy flips old diners, giving them new life.

What is the strange vehicle pictured below?

Have you ever wondered, “Why Did Ancient Italians Bury Thousands of Clay Body Parts?”

If you love both butter and history, you might want to check out this new book.

Finally, I hope some of you will find this useful or interesting:
“A History Buff’s Guide to Medieval London”

Enjoy the weekend, everyone!
