6 Things I Learned in November

I am pleased to say that this month I am linking up with Emily P. Freeman to share what I learned I learned in November. (She now hosts link-ups quarterly, rather than every month.) Without further ado…

  1. Prince Charles is the longest-serving heir apparent in British history.

2. A wallaby’s pouch faces the mother’s back legs so her baby won’t get covered in dirt as she digs.

3. According to Wikipedia, the Dunning-Kruger effect is “a cognitive bias in which low-ability individuals suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly assessing their ability as much higher than it really is.” In other words, you can be too ignorant to know your own ignorance. (As I mentioned in this post, I love having names for phenomena like this.)

4. Bears do not truly hibernate; they go into a deep sleep called winter lethargy. (Animals that are unconscious through the winter include toads and groundhogs.)

5. The FBI uses the unique wear pattern in denim jeans to identify criminals. (At least they did in 1998.)

6. A limited number of new emojis are released each year. (You can blame my ignorance on the topic of emojis to the shocking fact that I don’t own a smartphone.) Here are some of the new emojis for 2017.

What did you learn in November?
