7 Things I Learned in December

  1. Ocean currents are partly driven by trade winds (created by the rotation of the earth) and directed by hitting large land masses. For example, the North Equatorial Current flows west, feeds into the Gulf Stream which carries warm water to Europe (via the North Atlantic Current); the British Isles are so rainy and foggy because the warm moist air meets cooler land and air.

2. Canada’s national museums are free for kids from December 12, 2025 till January 15, 2026.

3. Cutting bangs is not as hard as it looks. I mean, they may not come out perfect, but some fear-mongering I read online is ridiculous!

4. I always thought sprinkles were just for looks, but the kids used some sour apple sprinkles on sugar cookies. No doubt there’s a world of flavoured sprinkles I didn’t know about.

5. A pie crust fit well in a star-shaped cake pan and the pieces came out well; now I’m pondering the possibilities.

6. The bowling alley in Ogdensburg has been completely renovated. Of course the prices went up, but it sure looks nice in there. (The electronic score-keeping is fancier than necessary; we did not enter everyone’s email addresses.)

7. After taking some time this fall to reevaluate my schedule and priorities, I’ve decided to continue my pattern of blogging less often but not to give up on reading! I also plan to attend my local monthly ladies’ Bible study rather than an online study or library book club. Let’s see how 2026 goes!
