6 Things I Learned in February

Every season Emily P. Freeman hosts a link-up where bloggers share the things they’ve learned over the past weeks and months. I’m still writing a “what I learned” post every month (check out my December and January posts, if you missed them), but today I’ve linked up with her winter post. I love how she encourages people to share the “silly, serious, sacred, or just plain useful.” When you’re done reading the six things I learned in February, I hope you’ll head over to her blog.

  1. I can cut my husband’s hair using scissors. I’ve buzzed it many times, but I used scissors for the first time this month and it turned out better than we expected. (I used this video as a guide.)

2. I do want house plants. I thought I’d accepted the fact that I always kill house plants and had moved on with my life, but the truth is I would love a large plant. Any suggestions for house plants that are big, hardy, and don’t need a lot of sun?

3. During the Mexican-American War a battalion of Mormons marched all the way from Iowa to San Diego. (I hope to write more about this in a future blog post, so keep your eyes peeled.)

4. An MRI can take over an hour and is quite loud, with tapping and thumping noises. (I didn’t have an MRI this month, just learned this from the radio — I had no idea!)

5. At the beginning of Lent Icelanders eat sweet buns with fillings and glaze. (Don’t these look scrumptious?)

6. Revising a novel that has lain dormant for a year is equal parts exhilarating and nerve-wracking. I think I’m up for the challenge! (If you’d like updates on my fiction writing journey, sign up for my email newsletter here.)
