Assorted Short Poems by Yours Truly

Scrambling to find something to publish on my blog today, something that wouldn’t require a lot of time or brain power, I came across a file full of short poems that I wrote in 2015.

Here are a few for your reading pleasure.

Floorboards creaking, eggshells cracking
Someone sneaking, midnight snacking
Omelette frying, apron fraying
Someone sighing, no one saying

Cinnamon pancakes
Applesauce crumbs
Sunlight on saucers
Dishwasher hums

Why does every delicious
Endeavour
Make so many dishes?

Hair in a bun
Dust in the air
Crumbs in the cracks
Novels in stacks
Smears on a chair
Nap in the sun

Blue-green glacial streams
Conifers and craggy peaks
Helicopter view

Long lazy line
Stretching the sidewalk
Inevitable eavesdropping
Standing, stepping, stopping
Finally at the front.

Cheery cherry bowl
Milky murky granola
Late light bedtime snack

Wobbly hands clutch pot,
Halting steps across the room,
Dirt spills. Her first sprout.

Teapot
Red and rotund
Pouring my steaming drink
A cheery companion for this
Long night

My question for you is, do you write poetry?

  1. Emily Miller says:

    I love them!

Poem number 4…I think the speaker should be cleaning up the mess rather than taking a nap in the sun. Unless it’s a cat or dog taking a nap in the sun.
Well, I hate to be one of those people who analyzes a poem all wrong! 🙂 Is it about a used bookstore?

  2. Shelley says:

So many lovely images! I especially like your haiku in general, and ‘wobbly hands” and “blue-green” in particular.
