6 Things I Learned in July

This month’s list isn’t super long, but I learned some pretty interesting things in July.

  1. I’m a little bit obsessed with DavidsTea, so I was glad to hear that the co-founder has opened a salad restaurant (called Mad Radish, no less). I hope it becomes a giant chain!

2. There’s a feature on Goodreads where you choose a year and it generates a list of the top 200 books published that year.

3. If you want to be accurate, “convince” means to cause someone to believe something, while “persuade” means to cause someone to do something. I can’t believe I’ve gone so many years without realizing the difference.

4. Voting age in Canada was 21 until 1970, when it dropped to 18.

5. According to this free magazine from Alberta Health Services, “Until the 1980s, doctors commonly operated on newborns and pre-term infants without pain medication.” So sad.

6. There are 104 species of lemurs, and they are found only in Madagascar — and zoos (Calgary Zoo’s Land of Lemurs opened this month).
