8 Things I Learned in May

Once again I’m joining Emily P. Freeman to share assorted things I’ve learned recently. Here are eight things I learned in May. (You never know when you’ll learn something new about breakfast cereal or larvae!)

  1. When you grind your own wheat the flour tastes wheatier (at least in muffins, compared to using store-bought whole wheat flour).

2. All-Bran contains five times as much sugar as plain Cheerios. (And I always thought it sounded ridiculously healthy!)

3. May wine is a German beverage made by steeping sweet woodruff in wine.

4. The Metropolitan Museum of Art is the largest museum in the world.

5. The Statue of Liberty was designed to celebrate the abolition of slavery, not to welcome immigrants.

6. The aquatic larvae of caddisflies make their own homes using silk and debris, such as sand and bits of plants.

7. Extirpation is the term when a species goes extinct in a certain geographic area, but still exists elsewhere.

8. No matter how hard I try packing for a trip takes me a very long time.

What did you learn in May?

  1. Joy Ayer says:

Once again, I realize that Glendenning genes were unevenly distributed; this oldest grandchild receiving a pittance of the brilliance of my younger cousin!
