Historical Highlights 204

Just a few historical highlights for you today — we’re talking medieval monsters, genealogical records, space exploration, and Bob Ross. Enjoy.

Meet two of the volunteers who scan genealogical records for FamilySearch. “Once the Chapmans found a small piece of heavy cardstock that turned out to be a certificate for a burial, deodorizer, and embalming service that would retrieve bodies from Civil War battlefields for a $99 fee.”

Last Saturday a Sotheby’s auction commemorating the lunar landing exceeded the high estimate by $1 million. “The sale featured a wide variety of material from the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo missions, including direct consignments from astronauts, an impressive collection of flown mission artifacts and hardware, the finest single owner collection of flown Robbins medallions, early contractor’s models, spacesuits, maps, charts and more.”

Finally, why can’t you buy a Bob Ross painting?

That’s all for this week!
