5 Things I Learned in August

Here are five things I learned over the past month, both from life experience and reading articles.

  1. Baked oatmeal is a great way to use less-than-perfect peaches (mealy or hard).

2. Jerry Garcia was the lead guitarist for the Grateful Dead. As many times as I’ve eaten Ben & Jerry‘s Cherry Garcia ice cream I didn’t bother looking up who he was. (I thought he was a baseball player for some reason…?)

3. Mascara stains are not difficult to remove from clothing. (I have a lot of fails in the laundry department, so this was a nice revelation.)

4. “A 1958 Latin translation [of A.A. Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh] by Alexander Lenard, Winnie ill Pu, is the only book in Latin to ever become a New York Times bestseller.”

5. The oldest documented Christian marriage in the U.S. dates to 1565 (between a free black woman and a Spanish soldier). Learn more here.
