Favourite Things: September Edition

Good news: we moved into our new house this month! Bad news: I didn’t read very many books. (The trade-off was worth it.)

Read

The Art of Gathering by Priya Parker talks about hosting events from the perspective of a strategic facilitator. I found it thought-provoking.

The Tale of Three Trees is a gentle folktale that touches on the life and death of Christ.

Do

Some highlights of the month:

  • Baking a giant cinnamon bun for my birthday
  • Having friends bring sloppy joes, chips, veggies, fancy drinks, and more to our house on moving day (so appreciated!)
  • Officially beginning homeschooling
  • Attending a potluck picnic for homeschoolers in Harrison Park
  • Shopping for rugs, lamps, and furniture on Kijiji
  • Unpacking dozens of boxes of books
  • Walking to parks and stores instead of getting in the car
  • Attending a free festival downtown (the kids couldn’t get enough of the bouncy castle and I enjoyed a sample of salmon soup)

Meditate

“And I charged your judges at that time, ‘Hear the cases between your brothers, and judge righteously between a man and his brother or the alien who is with him. You shall not be partial in judgment. You shall hear the small and the great alike. You shall not be intimidated by anyone, for the judgment is God’s. And the case that is too hard for you, you shall bring to me, and I will hear it.'” – Deuteronomy 1:16-17

What were some of your September favourites?
