5 Things I Learned in December

Here are a few things I learned in the last month of 2019.

  1. First I thought I learned that hiding a pickle ornament on a Christmas tree was a German tradition, then I learned that it’s actually American. Either way, I’d never heard of this custom!

2. Delicious, easy hot chocolate recipe: melt a small handful of chocolate chips and a small handful of salted caramel chips in a mug with a bit of milk. Stir till smooth, fill the mug with more milk, and microwave until hot. Amazing.

3. Rosemary plants need a lot of sun. I bought a cute Christmas tree shaped one from the grocery store on a whim and it began to die as soon as I brought it home. (In case you are wondering, my other house plants are doing quite well!)

4. Making your own Jeopardy game with bristol board, index cards, and trivia garnered online leads to a pretty good party game. I used my Christmas-themed Jeopardy twice this season and both times was relieved that people had a good time.

5. You know how some families spend less on Christmas gifts and more on experiences or a family trip? Turns out we don’t buy a lot of gifts but just spend a ton on reduced chocolate on Boxing Day. We should be set for quite a few months now…
