7 Things I Learned in August

  1. Exterior house painting takes even longer than I anticipated. (But our “painting lady” did a wonderful job.)

2. Don’t bother trying to mini golf with children under seven (at least with my children!).

3. Kincardine has a lovely public beach with flower gardens and a shady spot to picnic by the parking lot.

4. Centennial Tower in Owen Sound is a rather sinister-looking structure built on an old lime works. (This was our last landmark on a family scavenger hunt put out by the public library.)

5. Ambleside Online (free Charlotte Mason curriculum) has a new Canadian history and literature reading list and schedule.

6. Joseph Pilates was born in Germany, worked as a model for anatomical drawings, moved to England, taught self-defense to Scotland Yard detectives, was interned as an “enemy alien” during World War I, and opened a studio in New York City, where he trained ballerinas. (And that’s certainly not his whole life story!)

7. Here’s how to make the best lemonade.
