7 Things I Learned in February

  1. The finches I’ve seen at our feeder are house finches not purple finches (they have streaky bellies and only part of their heads are red).

2. Saint Valentine is the patron saint of lovers, epileptics, and beekeepers.

3. In Peru alcohol is not sold during the 48 hours before an election.

4. I went to a physiotherapist for the first time in my life and one thing I learned was not to do kegels while sitting (instead lie down and exhale so you aren’t putting pressure on your pelvic floor).

5. The Scholé Sistership (a community of moms who want to learn and grow while helping their kids learn and grow) has an app, so I can join discussions on my phone. (Sidenote: I am motivated to pull out my commonplace notebook — basically a place to copy meaningful quotations from books I am reading.)

6. My kids are learning so much, from Shakespeare memorization to simple needlepoint to household chores. (It’s too easy for me to focus on the challenges of parenting and forget the progress everyone is making!)

7. I think after March Break I will be ready to get into a more consistent routine, create boundaries for technology use, and start teaching the kids French again. (After a school term of taking things easy.)

What did you learn in February?

  1. Lori Ferguson says:

I vouch for the kids learning so much. Eleanor gave me a very long Shakepeare quotation that mightily impressed me!
