Favourite Things: April Edition

We got in a lot of visiting in April and also managed to revel in the sunshine, despite the freezing overnight temperatures.

Read

I have only one book to share this month: Crow Lake by Mary Lawson. It’s a sad novel about family tragedies and growing up… I was on tenterhooks to know what terrible things would occur, but the hopeful ending makes me want to reread it someday. Excellent writing and lots to discuss, so I recommend it for book clubs.

(We also listened to the audiobook of Because of Winn-Dixie, which I’d forgotten is on the list of Novels I Wish I’d Written. I liked the narrator’s accent, too.)

Eat

Here are some of my favourite things we cooked/baked this month:

Do

Here are our favourite activities:

  • Had my in-laws over for several days and took a trip to my parents’ house
  • Visited the Billy Bishop Museum
  • Hosted a spring-themed baby shower brunch
  • Walked to Harrison Park (for the playground and the swans)
  • Was a surprise guest at a book club I helped found about 12 years ago

Meditate

God is our refuge and strength,
    a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way,
    though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam,
    though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
    the holy habitation of the Most High.
God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved;
    God will help her when morning dawns.
The nations rage, the kingdoms totter;
    he utters his voice, the earth melts.
The Lord of hosts is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah

 Come, behold the works of the Lord,
    how he has brought desolations on the earth.
He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
    he breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
    he burns the chariots with fire.
“Be still, and know that I am God.
    I will be exalted among the nations,
    I will be exalted in the earth!”
The Lord of hosts is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah – Psalm 46
