5 Things I Learned in October

  1. I learned in the most recent issue of this CM periodical (of all places), that ambergris is a waxy substance produced in the digestive system of sperm whales; it is used in making perfume and sells for $10,000 a pound.

2. Engastration is the process of cooking food inside other food.

3. You can make jelly out of corncobs. (Has anyone tried this?!)

4. Jack Prelutsky was the U.S.’s first Children’s Poet Laureate; definitely check out his work if you’re looking for funny poems that appeal to kids and adults.

5. For years dentists have told me that I’ll have to get my wisdom teeth out eventually, but so far they don’t bother me; I was just told that they have cavities, though, so I don’t know how much longer I’ll hang on to them.
