8 Things I Learned in December

  1. Correct me if I’m wrong, but in my experience the squirrels in Ontario are black and those in Michigan and New York are grey. It turns out that black squirrels are simply a colour variation of Eastern grey squirrels.

2. We never took the kids bowling in Owen Sound because it seemed expensive and now we find that in Ogdensburg it costs less than one quarter of the price!

3. You can buy a soft cargo carrier for the roof of your vehicle; we bought a RoofBag and somehow Andrew and I managed to get it on top of the van in the rain when it was full of luggage.

4. We discovered the Grocery Outlet in Trenton (similar to Food4Less in Owen Sound) and bought some new to us products, like Maison Riviera yogurt (flavours include peach/pomegranate/sea buckthorn and raspberry/matcha tea).

5. I also tried chocolate that had seaweed in it and I’m not planning to eat that again.

6, A Métis flag is a white infinity symbol on a red or blue background.

7. Claude Monet used to work on a whole bunch of paintings at a time, moving to the next one when the light changed, then returning to them all at the same time the next day.

8. Before electric Christmas lights were widely available you could rent strings of them.
