8 Things I Learned in February

  1. I didn’t know that cappuccinos can be “wet” or “dry.”

2. I didn’t know that “King’s X” is another term for “time out” in children’s games.

3. I didn’t know that Ogdensburg was the site of a British victory during the War of 1812.

4. I didn’t know that there were so many songs and parodies based on The Song of Hiawatha.

5. Have you also been inundated with news about April 8th’s total solar eclipse? One of many things I learned is that Delta Airlines is offering a special flight “scheduled to travel from Austin, Texas, to Detroit from 12:15 p.m. CT until 4:20 p.m. ET ‘for umbraphiles to be able to spend as much time as possible directly within the path of totality.'”

6. Also, here’s a very detailed interactive map of the path of the eclipse.

7. The Nicandri Nature Center is completely free and you can even borrow snow shoes and cross country skis.

8. Finally, I learned that homeschoolers can get a teacher’s discount from Thriftbooks (buy four books, get one free). I plan to use it when I buy books for next school year.
