Favourite Things: March Edition

I was certainly busy in March with everything from house guests to a family birthday to packing for our upcoming move. Through it all I have some recommendations that I hope you’ll find inspiring.

Books

I have three books to recommend this month. First up is This Is Where You Belong. I love this genre of books that combine research with personal experiments (think Gretchen Rubin’s happiness books) and this was timely as we’re preparing to move to a new city.

Next I reread Rebecca, a gothic suspense novel first published in 1938. While the narrator still infuriates me at times, I liked it better this time around. (Stay tuned for a post on my penchant for rereading books.)

For my Skype book club we read This Must Be the Place, my first Maggie O’Farrell. I found the relationships amongst the flawed characters so interesting and I marveled at that way O’Farrell included many perspectives and shifts in time without leaving me confused.

TV

This month we finished the latest season of This Is Us and also the last season of Parks and Recreation. It’s probably for the best to cut back on TV now, but it sure was nice to watch some entertaining shows while nursing the baby.

Activities

My sister, brother-in-law, and nephew visited from Virginia for a week and we packed in several fun activities:

  • Playing at the Devonian Gardens downtown
  • Watching Irish dancing at the Calgary Farmer’s Market on St. Patrick’s Day
  • Shopping for doll clothes for my oldest daughter’s birthday
  • Visiting Bow Habitat Station (aquariums and exhibits)
  • Five pin bowling (without the kids!)

Also in March the oldest kids went to swimming lessons for the first time and we had a fun night of board games and cookies with some friends.

Bible Verse

“For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.” – 2 Peter 1:16

What did you get up to in March?
