6 Things I Learned in March

Gretchen Rubin talks about how an atmosphere of growth is a key component of happiness, which certainly rings true for me.
I love to be working toward goals and learning new things (even trivial ones). Here are six assorted things that I learned last month.

  1. Young House Love might create a board game. (They mentioned this on their podcast in February, but I’m behind in my listening!)

2. Gretchen Rubin‘s new book, Outer Order Inner Calm, comes out next spring (March 2019). (I’m also behind on her podcast, so maybe she’s talked about it there…)

3. When picking someone up at the airport I should leave much earlier than I think. Waiting calmly in the cell phone lot is so much better than rushing through traffic, trying not to look at my phone, and later apologizing profusely for being late.

4. I knew that in the past many elopements to Scottish border towns like Gretna Green took place, but I just learned that they were called “anvil weddings” because the ceremonies were sometimes performed by blacksmiths.

5. Emily Dickinson was a botanist as well as a poet. (I learned this from this interesting post, which I shared on my blog last Friday.)

6. “Pencil crayons” is a Canadianism; Americans call them “colored pencils.” (Don’t know why I never noticed this before.)

What did you learn in March?

My mom just told me that she says “coloured pencils,” so maybe “pencil crayons” is only used in some parts of Canada?
