5 Things I Learned in October

  1. “Edelweiss” is not an Austrian folk song, but was written for The Sound of Music. In fact it was the last song ever written by Rodgers & Hammerstein.

2. To have your Christmas cactus bloom at Christmas you must ensure it gets 12 hours of darkness each night in the fall. (I’ll have to report back whether I have success.)

3. Talking to sellers on Kijiji can be so interesting and rewarding. One lady gave me some extra house plants, another lady gave me astilbe and shasta daisies from her garden, and a man who was selling a rug told me all about the professional cleaning process and showed me the rug pad he was about to buy online.

4. I guess I’m behind the times but I just learned that goat yoga is a thing.

5. Something that I’m still learning is to lower my expectations for how much we can do when house guests visit, especially with small children. (Turns out you can’t see all the sights and do all the things in 48 hours!)

What did you learn in October?
