Favourite Things: January Edition

In Ontario we’ve been in lockdown for a month. Thankfully there are a few differences from the spring lockdown (churches remain open — with a ten-person limit — and the library is doing curbside pickup), but I’d be counting the days till this is over, if I knew when that would be!

Read

In keeping with looking on the bright side, I’ve been doing a lot of reading lately, including books I’ve had on my shelf for years, starting The Lord of the Rings which I’ve been meaning to reread for ages, and reading aloud to the kids. (I spend a lot of time sitting down to nurse the baby!)

Here are the books I’ve enjoyed the most: Perfect, The Hypnotist’s Love Story, Our Homesick Songs, Redhead by the Side of the Road, The Girl Who Saved the King of Sweden, The Fellowship of the Ring.

And here are a few picture books you might like to check out if you have little ones in the house: Small Walt, Bunny Bungalow, Seven Little Mice Go to School.

Meditate

I call on you, my God, for you will answer me;
    turn your ear to me and hear my prayer.
Show me the wonders of your great love,
    you who save by your right hand
    those who take refuge in you from their foes.
Keep me as the apple of your eye;
    hide me in the shadow of your wings
from the wicked who are out to destroy me,
    from my mortal enemies who surround me. – Psalm 17:6-9

Sorry this post is so short, but I am short on sleep (see: newborn). What are some of your January favourites?

    Regarding LotR: I saw this meme. “It’s sweet how Sauron wants to rule all creatures and bring darkness and evil to all Middle-earth, but his also takes time out of his wretched schedule to write a little poem and engrave it on home-made jewelry. We all need a hobby is what I’m saying.”
