8 Things I Learned in February

  1. Surprising health benefits of apple cider vinegar: according to this article it can help control blood sugar and decrease the growth of salmonella.

2. Camu camu is an Amazonian berry that is extremely high in vitamin C (I bought some in powder form to put in smoothies).

3. The Ogdensburg bridge commuter cards can be renewed over the phone (which is great because the office hours are 7am-3pm when Andrew is usually at work).

4. A Netflix Pride & Prejudice series is coming out in the fall.

5. Also coming out this fall is the first American Girl novel written for adults; it’s the continuing story of Samantha Parkington set in 1920.

6. The only place Jesus’ heart is explicitly described in the Bible is Matthew 11:29.

7. Tim Severin, author of The Brendan Voyage, also recreated the travels of Marco Polo, Sinbad the Sailor, Odysseus, and others. He must have been a fascinating person!

8. Jim Jones attracted people to the Peoples Temple in the 1950s-70s by promoting racial equality; 70-80% of his followers were Black.

    Thanks for the tip about bridge cards!

    We were told by a PA who specializes in dermatology that apple cider vinegar, or any vinegar, can be used to remove age spots. Just as vinegar tenderizes meat, vinegar on a cotton ball under a bandaid can soften the skin of the age spot, so that it gradually peels off.
